Question: Temp gauge immediately to hot, with cold airfrom vents

I had the thermostat replaced 2 months ago, so I don't believe that's the problem. When I turn on the heater the temp gauge immediately goes in the red and cold air comes out. If I mess with the controls, eventually I get heat, then it turns cold soon. Also, the motor starts sounding like it's falling apart.
